🖼️ How to Apply Your Decal
There are three methods to apply your wall decal. Please review the options below and follow the method that applies to your order.
Method A: With transfer tape
Method A (Partial): With partial transfer tape
Method B: Without transfer tape
🔹 If your decal did not come with transfer tape, skip to Method B.
✅ Method A: Applying Decals WITH Transfer Tape
(Full or Partial Transfer Tape)
What Is Partial Transfer Tape?
Some decals come with transfer tape covering only part of the design. This is often done to make large or intricate decals easier to apply. The application process is the same as full transfer tape—simply work with the sections that include transfer tape.
Tools You’ll Need:
-
Scissors
-
Tape (any kind, to secure the decal)
-
Squeegee or credit card
-
Clean, damp cloth
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare Your Decal
Lay the decal flat on a clean surface. Use your hand, a credit card, or a squeegee to smooth out any wrinkles.
If the decal includes separate pieces, you may cut between them for easier application.
2. Clean the Surface
Wipe the wall or surface with a clean, damp cloth. Allow it to dry completely.
3. Position and Secure the Decal
Hold the decal up to the wall and position it as desired. Use tape to secure it in place along the edge where the transfer tape is located.
4. Peel Back the Transfer Tape
Gently peel the transfer tape away from the backing paper toward the center, making sure the vinyl sticks to the transfer tape.
💡 If any vinyl sticks to the backing paper, press the opposite side of the transfer tape down firmly to help it adhere.
5. Cut the Backing Paper
Once about half of the backing paper is peeled away, carefully cut off the exposed backing paper.
6. Apply the Decal
Using outward strokes from the center, press the decal onto the surface with a squeegee or credit card.
7. Repeat for Remaining Sections
If your decal has partial transfer tape, repeat the peeling and pressing process for the remaining sections.
8. Remove the Transfer Tape
Slowly peel away the transfer tape at a sharp angle, ensuring all vinyl remains on the surface.
✋ If any vinyl lifts, lay the tape back down and press firmly.
💧 If vinyl clings to the transfer tape:
Lightly dampen the transfer tape with a wet cloth, wait about 1 minute, then carefully remove.
💦 Optional Wet Application Method (Recommended for Large Decals)
For larger decals, we recommend using a wet application method. This prevents the decal from sticking immediately to the surface, making installation more forgiving and allowing you to reposition the decal if needed.
How to Use the Wet Method:
-
Lightly spray the surface with a glass cleaner (such as Windex) or a mild soap-and-water solution before applying the decal.
-
As a general guideline, use approximately one spray per foot of decal size.
-
Example: A decal measuring about 22" x 22" typically requires 3–4 light sprays.
-
-
If you spray too much, the decal may not stick right away. Simply wipe the surface with a clean towel and spray again lightly until the surface is just damp—not dripping.
-
While the decal is still wet, take this time to make sure it is smooth, straight, and positioned correctly.
-
Don’t worry—once the decal dries, it will adhere perfectly.
🔵 Method B: Applying Decals WITHOUT Transfer Tape
This method is used for decals such as polka dots, wall stripes, rings, squares, and similar designs.
Instructions:
-
Clean the Wall
Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and allow it to dry. -
Peel and Stick
Peel the decal from the backing paper and apply it directly to the wall. Press firmly to secure.
📝 Tips for Best Results:
-
Apply decals to clean, smooth, dry surfaces only.
-
Avoid applying decals to freshly painted walls—wait at least 3 weeks.
-
Large decals may be easier to apply with two people.
